PYD ENTERPRISES

Systems integrator · Global systems integrator, core modernization practice

A global SI practice moved discovery deliverables to week two and won a fixed-price core banking program.

The core modernization practice of a global systems integrator runs PYD ENTERPRISES under a Global SI Partner license across client discovery phases, delivering white-label rule inventories and OpenAPI specs in the second week of engagement.

The challenge

What they were up against.

The practice bids fixed-price modernization programs for banks and insurers. Its discovery phases traditionally ran 10 to 14 weeks with a team of senior consultants reading code and interviewing client staff, and the resulting estimate carried a large contingency because nobody could prove the rule count. Twice in the prior two years the practice had lost margin on programs where undocumented logic surfaced mid-build. The practice lead wanted discovery output that was evidence, not opinion: something a client architect could check line by line, under the practice's own brand.

The approach

How the work ran.

One license, many client environments

Under the Global SI Partner license, the practice deploys PYD ENTERPRISES inside each client's environment for the length of the discovery phase. Client code never moves to the SI's network or to PYD ENTERPRISES. The partner enablement sandbox let the practice train 40 consultants on public benchmark code before the first client engagement.

Pricing the build from the rule inventory

Discovery now starts with a full parse in week one. By week two the practice delivers a white-label report with its own branding: system inventory, dependency graph, dead code ratio, rule counts by domain and complexity, and the DMN and OpenAPI exports. Consultants spend the remaining weeks validating rules with client SMEs and designing the target architecture, which is the work clients actually pay senior people for.

The build estimate is then derived from counted rules and interfaces rather than from LOC heuristics. On the $15M core banking bid, the practice's discovery identified 5,100 business rules and 260 interfaces, and the client's evaluation panel cited the traceable rule inventory as the deciding factor.

Dialect customization

Two client estates used Informix 4GL and a vendor-specific COBOL precompiler. Dedicated parser customization under the partner agreement added both dialect packs within the discovery window, so neither client had to be quoted a manual exception.

Outcome

The practice runs PYD ENTERPRISES on every legacy discovery phase it bids. Discovery phases that took 10 to 14 weeks now deliver their first evidence in week two, and build estimates rest on counted rules with source references. The practice credits the approach with winning a $15M fixed-price modernization program in its first year on the license.

“PYD ENTERPRISES gave us complete OpenAPI specs and DMN tables in two weeks. We won a $15M modernization bid because our discovery was solid.”
